Social Media in Education: What is it, How can it be Used and is it a Nuisance or Key Educational Tool of the Future


We see it, We use it, and we can't stop it. Social Media has in span of 5 years completely become synonymous with life nearly everywhere there is a digital thumbprint.Between Instagram, Vine, Twitter to Facebook to google+ it is nearly impossible to not be interconnected. Whether we are  simply sending packets of useless data, to interacting with an entire Online Learning community to comment on current research we are unable to separate from the fact that we are plugged in nearly 70 percent of our lives . The question is.. can we utilize this productively?  According to research nearly the majority of instructors believe that use of  some aspect of social media increases the efficacy of the classroom. 

Prior To the module I had assumed that social media meant Facebook and twitter. I had seen several ways that twitter and Facebook had been utilized for an education/outreach context, however the efficacy  and the proper use of these as an education tool is something that i would like to understand
