Behaviorism & Cognitivism an Introduction

Prior to the module as with learning theories I had a prior recollection of Behaviorism and Cognitivism, however it was a loose recollection.

Personally I began this module thinking that behaviorism is analyzing ones behavioral patterns and cognitivism as an analysis of ones cognitive ability.

Behaviorism
According to Harasim " Behaviorist learning theory focuses on that which is observable: how people behave and especially how to change or elicit particular behaviors. Behaviorism provided a theory of learning that was empirical, observable and measurable."
Harasim, Linda (2012 ). Learning Theory and Online Technology (p. 10). Taylor and Francis.

Behaviorism was noted to really come into the forefront in the 19th century. With respects to learning theory it is considered one of the most basic and limited learning theories, however the fact that behaviorism marked a significant shift in thought, as there was a stochastic, scientific approach to learning through collection of observations. Thus the application of the scientific method to an aspect that had(As far as is documented) was a significant shift forward in understanding how we learn.
